Spiritual Geek Hack: Disconnecting for a Deeper Connection

Eleven days ago, I had the opportunity to enjoy some incredible hiking, as I shared in my most recent post, "Sacred Walk in the Forest." During those hikes, we were in remote areas with no cell phone signal. I was thrilled to have the freedom to switch my phone to airplane mode and not worry about receiving messages. The simplicity of uninterrupted time allowed for more presence and a deeper enjoyment of the beauty surrounding me.
Seventeen years ago, my favorite vacations were in Mexico with my partner. We only informed our parents of our whereabouts and savored the pool, gym, and dinner without electronics. No one knew where to find us, and we weren’t expected to check email every day either!
I miss those days, yet being in the woods reminded me that I can create this space for myself whenever I want. I get to choose what my environment looks like, and no one can create it better than I can.
Ways to Create Distraction-Free Time:
1. Reduce notifications:
If the idea of not having your phone sounds challenging, start by reducing the notifications you receive. Over the years, I've turned off almost all notifications in my settings. I now open apps only when I want to check messages, avoiding constant interruptions.
2. Begin with an hour:
Start by turning your phone to airplane mode, removing the watch that keeps things close, and go about your day. Whether it's a walk outside, a trip to the grocery store, or simply watching a TV show, notice what it feels like to just be without interruptions.
3. Try a whole day!
Feeling confident and relishing the freedom of no interruptions? Yes, you've got this! Spend an entire day living without your phone, Kindle, watch, or computer. Embrace nature, truly disconnect, and enjoy reconnecting with your own energy and the incredibly brilliant person you are!

Creating time for yourself without the digital noise is more than just a way to enjoy peace and quiet.
It's also a gift for your mind.
In a world that thrives on constant connection, the mental toll can be exhasuting.
Taking time away from screens allows your brain to reset.
It helps reduce stress, calm the chaos, and reminds you that peace is always available—when you choose it.
When you disconnect, you open the door to clarity, balance, and emotional reset.
It’s a chance to reconnect with the most important person: yourself. And in doing so, you give your mental health the space to breathe and thrive.
